Resumen de Fernando de Montessus de Ballore y Luis Risopatrón: Aportes a la Divulgación del Conocimiento Antártico en Chile, 1906-1916

Durante las últimas décadas del siglo XIX, Chile había mostrado un constante intereses por los territorios australes y antárticos, no obstante, el terremoto que afectó al país en 1906 generó que las autoridades político-administrativas las postergarán por algún tiempo. Sin embargo, las instituciones académicas y científicas y algunos de sus más importantes representantes, siguieron a través de sus publicaciones mostrando preocupación por ahondar en el conocimiento y difusión de las actividades que se realizaban por esos apartados territorios y mareas. Es así, que el presente trabajo es una aproximación a las aportaciones que sobre esos temas realizaron el Servicio Sismológico de Nacional y la Sociedad Chilena de Historia y Geografía y, además, dos de sus más destacados integrantes, Fernando Montessus de Ballore y Luis Risopatrón.

During the last decades of the XIX century, Chile had shown continuous interest in the Southern and Antartic territories, however, the 1906 earthquake that affected the country made the political and administrative authorities postponed that interest for some time. Nevertheless, academic and scientific institutions together with some of their most important representatives continued publishing and promoting knowledge and activities in these far lands. Thus, this work is an approach to the contributions in this field made to the National Sismology Service and the Chilean History and Geography Society. Besides, two of the most outstanding members, Fernando Montesssus de Ballore and Luis Risopatrón between 1906 and 1916 will be presented.
