La idea de España del PSOE durante el final del franquismo y la Transición política, está muy ligada a un llamamiento a una España antitética al régimen, que se moviliza contra él y que quiere forjar un nuevo orden político e institucional. Las apelaciones al Estado o al pueblo, esconden una idea de transformación o de progreso, pero también una nueva idea de ciudadanía basada en la cohesión y el respeto a las instituciones.
