    Venezuela como país megadiverso pretende crear espacios para el debate sobre su valor social como patrimonio natural.En este sentido y considerando que una representación social es una figura cultural y trascendental evocada de generación en generación; se presenta el siguiente estudio el cual se fundamentó en el análisis de las representaciones sociales que poseen los estudiantes del IPM JMSM sobre las plantas medicinales para generar líneas de acción que promuevan el uso sustentable de este recurso. En este sentido, la técnica de recolección de datos usada fue la evocación y asociación libre, analizados por frecuencias y con la técnica de Escalerización. En el estudio se evidenció que la representación más importante y general gira en torno a dos nociones: las razones de uso y propiedades. Todo esto constituyó un aporte para la planificación de líneas de acción que implican un abordaje concreto considerando las debilidades encontradas en el estudio.

    Venezuela as a megadiverse country creating spaces for the debate about their social value as natural heritage In this sense, and considering that a social representation is a cultural and transcendental figure evoked from generation to generation; the following study is presented which was based on the analysis of social representations that the MPI JMSM´s students have about medicinal plants to generate action lines that promote the sustainable use of this resource. In this sense, the data collection technique used was the free evocation and association, analyzed by frequencies and the statistical technique of Escalerización.

    The study showed that the most important and general representation turns consisting of two notions: the reasons for using and the properties.

    The aspects constituted a contribution to the planning of lines of actionthat involves a particular approach considering the weaknesses found in the study.
