    O texto apresenta um relato e uma reflexão sobre a trajetória de pesquisa da autora no que se refere à leitura de mitos em mapas (Dissertação de Mestrado "A Cartografia e os mitos: ensaios de leitura de mapas", de 1997), com base nos trabalhos de Roland Barthes, Denis Wood/John Fels e John Brian Harley, na perspectiva de contribuir com uma crítica à Cartografia na Geografia. A proposta enfatizou a importância de ler mapas para, por eles, ler a sociedade e seus valores.

    É apresentado um breve panorama sobre produções em cartografia e linguística, sobre as discussões críticas da cartografia nos anos 1980/1990 e como estes influenciaram a proposição da pesquisa ("O trajeto"). Para ilustrar esse caminho, aborda-se um exemplo de leitura de mitos com base em mapas topográficos ("Uma aventura").

    This paper presents a report and a reflection on the author's research trajectory regarding the reading of myths in maps. Based on her master's thesis: "Cartography and myths: essays on map reading" (1997), inspired by the work of Roland Barthes, Denis Wood/John Fels and John Brian Harley, this paper aims to contribute to a critique of Cartography in Geography. The proposal emphasizes the importance of map reading and the reading of society and its values through them. It presents a brief overview of publications in cartography and linguistics, critical discussions about the cartography in the 1980s/1990s and how these perspectives have influenced the proposition of this research ("The path"). In order to illustrate this path, an example for the reading of myths in topographical maps is given ("An adventure�).
