  • Resumen
    • The purpose of this work is to determine the proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) role in the treatment of pathologies related to gastric acid hypersecretion, and whether the theoretical differences among new drugs of this group have clinical relevance to justify their use. PPIs are used for the treatment of peptic ulcer, the eradication of Helicobacter Pylori, gastroesophageal reflux or the prevention of gastrolesivity by NSAIDs, as well as an intravenous path for the prevention of rebleeding after digestive hemorrhage by peptic ulcer controlled endoscopically. They are metabolized in different ways by the enzymes of the CYP450 complex, though in the clinic the possible advantages of those that present a lower theoretical potential have not been yet proven. The clinical differences, do not justify the routinely use of the new PPIs in place of omeprazole, a drug with a greater experience of use and with a much lower cost
