    El modelo de academia estatal que se estableció en España desde mediados del siglo XVIII, es de inspiración francesa; al mismo tiempo, se difunden las escuelas de dibujo, ejemplos del espíritu ilustrado, fomentadas, en muchas ocasiones, por las Sociedades Económicas de Amigos del País. Nos tenemos que remontar a 1782 para encontrar la academia más antigua en Gran Canaria, y a la primera mitad del siglo XIX en Tenerife. Sus profesores serial! los que impulsarán las primeras exposiciones y lucharían por crear clases gratuitas de pintura, escultura y dibujo. Aquí se formarían tanto los artesanos como los pintores. El método de enseñanza de la academia consistía en el aprendizaje de la técnica, bien al óleo o a la aguada, y el ejercicio de la habilidad dibujística con la mayor corrección posible.

    The model of state academy who was established in Spain from the 18th century, is of french inspiration; at the same time, there spread the schools of drawing, examples of the thought of the illustration, fomented for the Economic Societies of Friends of the Country. We have to go back 1782 to find the most ancient academy in Great Canary, and to the first half of the 19th century in Tenerife. Your teachers would be those who were stimulating the first exhibitions and would fight to create free classes ofpainting, sculpture and drawing. Here there would be formed both the craftsmen and the painters.

    The method of education of the academy was consisting of the leaming of the technology, good to the oil or to the wash, and the exercise of the skill of the drawing with the best possible alteration.
