En la actualidad está muy extendida la idea de que la sociedad y la cultura españolas se distinguen por la fiesta y el vitalismo. Sin embargo, durante muchos siglos fue preponderate una visión opuesta, la España grave y ascética o incluso la España negra. En estas últimas fue determinante la presencia de la muerte y lo macabro. El presente artículo hace un recorrido por esta vertiente necrófila sin defender por ello una especificidad de la cultura española en este terreno.

Nowadays, there is the widespread belief that Spanish society and culture stand out for their vitality. Notwithstanding this, some centuries ago, the opposite point of view was predominant, that is to say, the ascetic and serious Spain. In this context, the presence of death and the macabre was decisive. This article walks around a necrophiliac side without attempting to defend Spanish specificity in this field.
