  • The article discusses the civil war in Syria as of 2014 and the author's belief that a U.S. intervention is necessary to halt destabilization of the entire region of the Middle East. Topics include the militant Sunni group ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, which was launched from Syria; the effect of refugees from Syria on its neighbors Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey; and the author's policy recommendation that the U.S. build an army in the region to defeat both militant Islamists and the faction of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
