Este ensayo revela algunas de las tensiones y contradicciones que han modelado la evolución de la industria turística mexicana. El objeto de estudio es relevante por la significativa aportación económica de este sector que durante las últimas décadas ha conocido su más importante crecimiento. Infortunadamente ha sido un crecimiento con titubeos, retrocesos y beneficios muy parciales. Una hipótesis del ensayo es que la falta de estudios consistentes (reflejada como un problema de olvido y trivialización de los problemas del sector) sobre la evolución turística en México tiene su correlato en decisiones gubernamentales que la han afectado sustantivamente, sea bajo la forma de políticas equívocas o en el hecho de ser un sector regulado predominantemente por los sectores privados.

This paper reveals some of the tensions and contradictions that have shaped the evolution of the Mexican tourism industry. The object of study is relevant because of the significant economic contribution of this sector in recent decades has experienced its most significant growth. Unfortunately there has been a growth hesitantly, backwards and very partial benefits. A hypothesis of the essay is that the lack of consistent studies (reflected as a problem of forgetting and trivializing the problems in the sector) on tourism development in Mexico has its counterpart in government decisions that have affected substantially, either in the form of political or misleading in a sector being regulated predominantly by private sectors.
