  This article analyzes the Assembly of God Church in the 1990s and also the project titled Decade of Harvest, especially the discourses and their motivations. In this essay, struggles by the power and tensions between leaders with regard to doctrinal, theological, administrative and ministerial issues, in an environment marked by several changes in Brazilian society, were highlighted. These disputes began when a group of pastors went on to defend domestic reforms and sought to legitimize his position before the pastors who opposed the changes. In this unique and unprecedented offensive by the Church, leaders invested in diversified strategies to ensure the expansion, legitimacy and social recognition. In the "end time" when it was expected the second coming of Jesus Christ, the Church should conquer and save all mankind. After the completion of the harvest, the final rapture would undoubtedly come. Thus, the Decade of Harvest had connotations of conquest, war, collective action and cross. Throughout the 1990s there was a willingness of leaders to monitor the changes taking place in society, which could ensure its consolidation as the largest Pentecostal church in Brazil. The Assembly of God also won high-profile success in partisan politics, spaces in TV and great social prestige.

  O artigo analisa a Igreja Assembleia de Deus nos anos 1990 e o projeto Década da Colheita, sobretudo, seus discursos e suas motivações. Foram privilegiadas as lutas por poder e as tensões entre as lideranças em torno de questões doutrinárias, teológicas, administrativas e ministeriais numa conjuntura marcada por inúmeras transformações na sociedade brasileira. Isso se manifestou quando um grupo de pastores passou a defender reformas internas e procurou legitimar sua posição frente aos pastores que eram contrários às mudanças. Numa ofensiva, sem precedentes por parte da Igreja, as lideranças investiram em estratégias diversificadas a fim de garantir a expansão, a legitimidade e o reconhecimento social. No “tempo do fim”, quando era esperado o segundo retorno de Jesus Cristo, a Igreja deveria conquistar e salvar toda a humanidade. Concretizada a colheita adviria o arrebatamento final. Assim, a Década da Colheita tinha conotação de conquista, de guerra, de ação coletiva e de cruzada. Ao longo dos anos 1990 houve uma disposição das lideranças para acompanhar as transformações em curso na sociedade, aspecto que garantiu sua consolidação como a maior igreja pentecostal do Brasil. A Assembleia de Deus conquistou também grande visibilidade pública, sucesso na política partidária, espaços na televisão e grande prestígio social.
