  • Resumen
    • How did the medieval church deal with deviance in questions of faith? A partial answer shall be sought here analysing the different methods to censor deviant creeds or formulations of theologians (i.e. theoretically trained and educated experts in issues of faith) in the Highand Later Middle Ages. Different ways of investigation, censorship and punishment were developed sequentially; they were at the disposal in parallel to each other to the early modem times.Still in the 15'" Century, theologians charged with heresy (Jan Hus, etc.) were condemned by General Councils and burned at the stake, whereas in routine cases a method focused on the popehad long been a common experience. The slow development and deployment of the procedures in selected cases are presented here in chronological order.
