A invenção dos manuscritos filosóficos clandestinos por Gustave Lanson em 1912 é incontestavelmente um dos elementos mais marcantes da pesquisa sobre o século XVIII na França. Para compreender a importância dessa descoberta e o grito de vitória que hoje ela proporciona, é preciso considerar sua lenta penetração na cultura universitária e a amplitude dos resultados da investigação lançada há cem anos. Com um título modesto, « Questions diverses sur l’histoire de l’esprit philosophique en France avant 1750 (Diversas questões sobre a história do espírito filosófico na França antes de 1750) », Lanson lançou um projeto, deu as pistas e elaborou um método. Em 1938 surgiu a notável síntese com a qual Ira O. Wade aplica ao pé da letra o programa lançado por seu predecessor. Em 1969 foi lançada a primeira de uma série de edições que se multiplicariam desde então num ritmo cada vez mais rápido. Em 1980, Olivier Bloch organiza o primeiro colóquio internacional de síntese sobre o fenômeno descoberto por Lanson. No mundo inteiro, investigação em bibliotecas, trabalhos, encontros, publicações não param de confirmar, de forma espectacular, a precisão das intuições de Lanson e a fertilidade do filão clandestino. Esse sucesso mundial foi acompanhado inevitavelmente de problemas de definição e de interpretação do corpus. The invention of the clandestine philosophical manuscripts by Gustave Lanson in 1912 is, undoubtedly, one of the most important points of the scientific research on eighteenth century in France. To understand the importance of this discovery, and the victory it represents to-day, one must measure the slowness of its penetration in the university culture as well as the broadness of the results of the very search launched a hundred years ago. Under a modest title, « Questions diverses sur l’histoire de l’esprit philosophique en France avant 1750 », Lanson prepared a project , giving the means and the method. In 1938 is published a remarkable synthetic work by Ira O. Wade, who sticks to the program of his predecessor. In 1969 is published the first of numerous editions which develop more and more on an intensive rythm. In 1980 Olivier Bloch organizes the fist synthetic congress on the whole phenomenon discovered by Lanson. Since then, all over the world, quests in libraries, papers, meetings, publications confirm Lanson’s intuitions as well as the fertility of the clandestine lode. This international success is inevitably accompanied by acute problems of definition and of interpretation of the corpus.
