A complete, articulate analysis of the cultural influences that swayed the choices of Monsignor Flaminio del Taja allows us to trace back the decorative process for the St. Flaminio chapel in the Jesuit church of St. Vigilio in Siena. The project was carried out between 1657 and 1671 by engaging artists from the Roman Chigi court of the calibre of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Pietro da Cortona, Rocco Tamburroni, Ercole Ferrata and Mechiorre Cafà, together with Bernardino Mei and Domenico Manetti, the clergyman's personal counsellors. As a man of great learning and a renowned collector of fine art, del Taja hired artists and workshops only after establishing a network of influential acquaintances in the market that would have enhanced his baroque taste and the personal wishes.
