    La reutilización de edificios históricos con fines hoteleros ha sido el rasgo distintivo de la red de alojamientos turísticos del Estado en sus nueve décadas de existencia. La arquitectura monástica constituye el tercer tipo de inmueble histórico más numeroso de la red y el que ha encabezado la lista de los paradores nuevos en el siglo XXI. El artículo realiza un recorrido analítico a través de las intervenciones de rehabilitación de antiguos conventos y monasterios dentro del contextode la hostelería pública, en el que se destaca como tipo arquitectónico óptimo para la adaptación hotelera. Los criterios de intervención patrimonial utilizados en cada periodo constituyen el hilo conductor de la investigación, que permite a su vez aproximar la historia y el carácter de cada una de las etapas significativas de la "Red de Paradores".

    The reuse of historical buildings with the aim of turning them into hotels has been the distinctive feature of the State tourist accommodation network during its nine decades of existence. The monastic architecture constitutes the third most numerous type of historical building of the network and the one that has headed the list of the new hotels establishments in the 21st century. This article makes an analytical tour across the ways of rehabilitation of former convents and monasteries inside the context of the public hotel chain, in which it is outlined as an architectural ideal type for the hotel adjustment. The heritage intervention criteria used in every period constitute the conductive thread of the research, which allows to bring the history and the character of each one of the signifi cant stages of the “Paradores Network”
