Con questo contributo l’autrice ci restituisce la fisionomia urbanistica dell’Orvieto duecentesca. Sono studiate le maggiori fabbriche papali e l’influenza sull’ambiente culturale della città medioevale della corte angioina, in cui brillavano colti prelati, scienziati e matematici, filosofi. Alla metà del Duecento inoltre numerosi furono gli insediamenti degli Ordini mendicanti che, con le loro fabbriche, contribuirono al rinnovamento dello spazio urbano della cittadina.

The final essay in the volume is that of Maria Teresa Gigliozzi who describes the urban and architectural character of thirteenth–century Orvieto. She examines the major papal buildings in the town and the influence of the Anjevin court, with its cultivated entourage of prelates, scientists, mathematicians and philosophers, on the cultural environment of the medieval city. Many establishments of the Mendicant Orders also arose in the city in the mid–13th century. With their various building enterprises, the Mendicants contributed significantly to the renewal of the urban space.
