Resumen de Stenosis growth prediction based on geometry factors

J.M. Menéndez Sánchez

  • Early diagnosis of diseases is one of the most effective factors to reduce their impact. As imaging acquisition techniques are available at low prices and short time, a geometric risk indicator for the development of lesions provide very important infor- mation. Here, a Growth Risk Indicator, determined by simulating different shapes of stenosis, is proposed in order to classify stenosis and predict the future development of lesions. Some lesions had been simulated in order to obtain the wall shear stress and the oscillatory shear index. The results of these simulations are correlated with geometries and these have been located in a Wall shear stress vs Oscillatory hear Index Map what allows to determine a non-dimensional index is propo- sed. These results show that there is the risk of growing stenosis is higher downstream and that, steeper slopes of the athe- roma plaque also increase the risk.
