Frente a los tradicionales estudios que se centran en la represión ejercida sobre los judeoconversos pero que no ahondan en el destino posterior de las víctimas, este artículo pretende analizar en la larga duración la capacidad de supervivencia de los conversos castigados por el Santo Oficio. Para ello, resultó esencial el poder económico y la oportunidad que les brindó la venta de oficios durante el siglo XVI, la cual posibilitó su retorno al poder municipal y, con el tiempo, su ingreso en la nobleza española.
Comparado aos estudos tradicionais centrados na repressão exercida sobre os cristãos novos, mas que não aprofundam no destino posterior das vítimas, este artigo pretende analisar, na longa duração, a capacidade de sobrevivência dos conversos punidos pelo Santo Ofício. Para isso, foi essencial o poder económico e a oportunidade que lhes ofereceu durante o século XVI a venda de ofícios, que fez possível o seu retorno ao poder municipal e, com o tempo, o seu ingresso na nobreza espanhola
In contrast to traditional studies that focus on the crackdown of the Inquisition against new Christians but do not delve into the subsequent fate of the victims, this article aims to offer a long-term analysis of the survival of crypto jews, even those who were punished by the Holy Office. To that end, economic power was essential as well as the opportunity that provided to them the sale of offices during the 16th century, which enabled them to return to municipal power and, eventually, joining the Spanish Nobility.
