  This article intends to describe some of the most important sources produced in the merovingian Gaul, and to reflect on its contribution to the study of the Royalty among the franks as well. The emphasis will be given to the written teslemony instead of the archaeological testemony. Among the texts wich will be analised in this work, there is the Decem Libri Historiarum of Gregory of Tours, the Chronicles attributed to Fredegário and its continuations, the Liber Historiae Francorum, the Capitularia Merowingica, the Epistolae Austrasicae and the Formulae Marculf.

  Este artigo pretende descrever algumas das principais fontes documentais produzidas na Gália durante o período merovíngio, bem como refletir sobre a contribuição delas para o estudo da realeza entre os francos. A ênfase será dada aos testemunhos escritos, em detrimento dos testemunhos arqueológicos, que, pela sua importância, mereceriam um estudo à parte. Os principais textos abordados neste trabalho serão os Decem Libri Historiarum, de Gregório de Tours, as Crônicas, atribuídas a Fredegário e suas continuações, o Liber Hisíoriae Francorum, os poemas de Venâncio Fortunato, os Capitularia Merowingica as Epistolae Austrasicae e as Formulae Marculfi.
