Dos Trópicos ao Prata: Viajantes brasileiros pela Argentina nas primeiras décadas do século XX

    Nas primeiras décadas do século XX, houve um esforço do governo e de intelectuais brasileiros para estreitar os laços com a América Hispânica, em especial, com a Argentina. Essa aproximação pode ser observada, entre outros documentos, através de relatos de viagens, que constituem fontes significativas para recuperar as visões sobre o “outro”. A partir de algumas reflexões sobre as narrativas de viagens como fontes históricas, analisamos três relatos de viajantes brasileiros pela região do Prata: do jornalista Arthur Dias, publicado em 1901; de Mario Brant, em 1917 e, por fim, de Luiz Amaral, em 1927. Consideramos que as narrativas de viagens entre as Américas são fontes ricas - e ainda pouco exploradas pelos historiadores - para a compreensão das representações construídas por latino-americanos sobre outros latino-americanos, levando-se em consideração que as identidades nacionais afirmaram-se, em grande medida, frente aos países vizinhos.

    In the first decades of the 20th century, the government and brazilian intellectuals made an effort to have closer relations with Hispanic America, particularly Argentina. This approach can be observed, besides other documents, in travel writings, that are significant sources to analyse the visions about the “other”. After some reflections about travel writings as historical sources, we analyse three narratives of Brazilian travellers through the Prata region: of the journalist Arthur Dias, published in 1901; of Mario Brant, in 1917, and, finally, of Luiz Amaral, in 1927. We consider that the travel writings between Americas are rich historical sources – and still no sufficient explored by the historians to understand the representations constructed by latin americans about other latin americans, considering that the national identities had been affirmed, in great measure, face the neighbouring countries.
