  • This paper presents how two second-degree polynomial equations are obtained. One to determine the thermal efficiency and the other determines the net working on a spark-ignition engine that operates on the Otto cycle. A thermodynamic model of 22 equations is developed. This model is simulated in the software, Engineering Equation Solver (EES) by varying the air-fuel ratio in the engine compression ratio. The results obtained are subject to the least squares method to perform a multiple regression. Obtaining a polynomial equation with an R2 of 0.995 which allows calculating the thermal efficiency and a polynomial equation with an R2 of 0.998 with which the net working of the cycle is determined. The resulting equations can be applied to a compression ratio that is between 4 and 12, and air-fuel ratio between 10 and 20.
