The article discusses innovation, research, and private-public partnerships in Brazil. Particular focus is given to the roles of government policies and investment by multinational corporations in the development of Brazil's knowledge economy. Details on research and development (R&D) operations established in Brazil by multinationals such as IBM and General Electric (GE) and on the Brazilian Corporation for Research and Industrial Innovation (EMBRAPII) are presented. Other topics include renewable energy, consumer electronics, and exports.
