  • In Latin America, American trypanosomiasis is the most important problem of public health. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of congenital Chagas disease in newborn Poconas Hospital. The determination of Chagas disease was performed by direct parasitological method, such as technical or microhematocrit capillary tube (microStrout) in peripheral and umbilical cord blood; serological examination conducted prior to the pregnant mothers who attended the Hospital.
