The article explores the peculiarities of a rare copy of the Legenda maior ; the illustrative project of this unique richly illuminated manuscript, transforms the main Franciscan text into an instru ment designed for personal devotion. The analysis of the patron's portraits allows us to recognize a case of female ownership: the lay and aristocratic patronage justifies the material luxury of the manuscript and the presence of innovative devotional images, conceived especially for this specific reader. It has, furthermore, been possible to identify another illuminated manuscript where the artist of the Legenda maior appears to have operated in an earlier stage.

L'articolo indaga le particolarità di un raro esempio di Legenda maior riccamente miniata, trasfor mata, attraverso un raffinato e innovativo progetto iconografico, in uno strumento devozionale ad uso personale. L'analisi delle raffigurazioni della committente permette di definirne la destinazione femminile, laica e aristocratica, che giustifica la sontuosità della veste materiale del codice e l'ela borazione di nuove immagini devozionali realizzate ad uso di una specifica lettrice. All'autore del raffinato ciclo di miniature, un artista di ambito emiliano, si è potuta infine ricondurre un'opera giovanile.
