  This article aims at analyzing the local appropriation mechanisms of the international concept of family farming based on the claims of the Colombian peasant movement and two farmers’ organizations in particular. Behind the conflict around the meaning of the concept, there is a real sociopolitical conflict through which the Colombian peasant movement has attempted to politicize family farming to position its claims at the national level. Beyond an agronomic and technical vision of rural development, Colombian peasant organizations have transformed "family farming". They have framed it as a matter of dignity, right to life, and defense of the territory, in response to a development model which threatens the very existence of the peasantry/campesinado.

  Cet article propose d’analyser les mécanismes d’appropriation locale du concept international d’agriculture familiale à partir des revendications du mouvement paysan colombien et de deux organisations paysannes en particulier. Derrière le conflit de sens autour de la notion, on observe un réel conflit politico-social dans lequel le mouvement paysan colombien tente de politiser l’agriculture familiale pour positionner ses revendications au niveau national. Les enjeux vont au-delà d’une vision agronomique et technique du développement rural, puisque les organisations paysannes colombiennes transforment le cadre « agriculture familiale » en revendications pour la dignité et pour le droit à la vie et la défense du territoire, face à un modèle de développement qui menace l’existence même du campesinado1.
