In the relations between Flanders and Italy, during the second half of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, the Portinari family played an extraordinary role. Overshadowed by the most famous member, Tommaso di Folco Portinari (Florence, 1428-1501), the fives of the other family members who took up his legacy and continued his business in Flanders have not been sufficiently investigated, despite their remarkable work as merchants, businessmen, and above all, patrons of Flemish art. The discovery in the Archives Départementales du Nord (Lille) of an inventory of the goods of Folco di Pigello as well as other unpublished documents concerning Tommaso's sons and nephews, allows us to reevaluate at least one forgotten generation of this family in Flanders.
