A discussion of Swiss stained glass during the Reformation. After Swiss cities joined the Reformation movement, the majority of religious images were destroyed between 1523 and 1536. During this time, it was only stained-glass windows that remained relatively untouched. After the religious upheaval, stained-glass artists returned to work. The writer goes on to discuss the case of the former Collégiale de Berne in order to explore the reasons for the preservation of the majority of stained-glass windows; these include the cost of replacing them with transparent glass, and the fact that the images on the windows did not appear detrimental to the new faith.
