  • Resumen
    • Baths in the 18th century were conceived of as vast complexes. These projects coincided with the publication of surveys of Roman buildings, of the plans of antique Rome and the most complex of its edifices (in particular by Piranese), and of works exclusively devoted to the description of the baths and their riches by Charles Cameron and by Bertotti Scamozzi. For 18th-century architects, baths represented the most prestigious public program, through the scope of the buildings and the quality of the decoration, and also in the evocation of the mastery of water and of still-unequaled architectural techniques. These edifices affirmed themselves as the most complete program in the history of architecture, to the point of constituting an overall model of the city, a modern city in the antique style.
