Resumen de L'œuvre de Paul Balze à l'abbaye de Chaalis
In 2006, the restoration of of the Primatice frescoes in Saint-Marie chapel in the royal abbey of Chaalis, France, shed new light on the work of hitherto little-known restorer Paul Balze. In conjunction with the restoration work, a close reading of the archives made it possible to specify the work carried out by Balze between 1875 and 1879. In addition, two further archive documents showed how Balze's work gave rise to opposing opinions in the space of a single generation.
