Reflections on the study of European architecture from around 1400. Topics discussed include the lack of attention paid to the importance of architecture's belonging to the culture of Christian Europe, more than any particular nation, in comparison with the figurative arts; the limits of the national and nationalistic approach; and the correctness of focusing on the political role of architecture.
