A history of the Zodiaque revue. The revue had its origins in a studio founded by Benedictine monk Dom Angelico Surchamp at the Pierre-Qui-Vire monastery in Burgundy, France, in the summer of 1948. It was founded in the context of the “quarrel about sacred art ” that was raging in Catholic thought in the 1950s, which centered around the question of the “regeneration” of religious art and the position of the church faced with the artistic evolutions of the 20th century, and especially the appearance of abstract art. The aim of the revue, originally, was to provide, as a source of inspiration to contemporary artists, the models offered by Romanesque art. For 50 years, the revue pursued its aim of photographing Romanesque architecture and sculpture in a new light. Over time, Editions Zodiaque gradually became a highly successful publisher of fine-art books
