  • Part of a special issue devoted to Medieval art from the Mediterranean basin. A study of the wall painting of the Last Judgment in the abbey church of Farfa, Italy. This is a work of extreme importance in the corpus of Italian representations of the Last Judgment. It is emblematic of the dual heritage that combines Oriental and Occidental traditions in Italian representations of the Last Judgment. The writer goes on to clarify the complex structure of Paradise as depicted in the Farfa painting, and to revive the debate about the Italian tradition of Last Judgment typology and the turn-of-the-13th-century space allocated to the judicial aspect of such representations.
