  • Resumen
    • Part of a special issue devoted to Medieval art from the Mediterranean basin. The monumental series of frescoes discovered in 1997 in the Gothic Hall of the monastery of Santi Quattro Coronati, Rome, is a highly significant work in 13th-century Italian art. Most of the decoration can be attributed to the so-called Third Master of Anagni and his workshop. The impressiveness of these now-restored paintings lies in the eloquence of the images, the use of color, the links with Classical tradition, and the relationships with the Ile de France. The theme (an encyclopedic summa), the naturalism, the depth of the narration, and the iconographical innovations of these paintings confirm an international artistic language. This in turn results in a new critical judgment of Roman art between 1230 and 1240.
