Part of a special issue devoted to Medieval art from the Mediterranean basin. An account of Pittura rupestre medievale. Lazio e Campania settentrionale (secoli VI–XIII), a book by Simone Piazza. There are still 42 sites decorated with rock paintings in Latium and north Campania, Italy. In attempting to distinguish between natural caves and those excavated for ritual purposes, Piazza studies all of the religious phenomena that may have impacted on the décor of the caves between the 6th and the 13th century.
