  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the popularization of pisé-de-terre (rammed earth) building techniques for rural and residential architecture by French architect François Cointeraux in the late 18th and early 19th century. Examining both the development and refinement of the technique and the political and economic circumstances of architectural studios and schools established by Cointeraux in Grenoble, Amiens, and Paris, France, the authors suggest that he by and large failed to institutionalize and win state support for his schools, even as he exerted significant influence as an architectural theorist and writer. They also provide details about his interactions with contemporary politicians and economists inspired by physiocracy.
