This contribution deals with the isotopic composition (C13 and O18) of modern tufa deposits and the related water in the fluvial system of the Parque del Monasterio de Piedra (Zaragoza province) from 1999 to 2003. Sediment and water were sampled biannually (june and december) in situ at five sites. Besides, sediment accumulated on five tablets installed during this period was sampled, once the tablets were removed in 2003, acconding to the six-monthly laminated records identified through measured sedimentation rates. Deposite some differences in the isotopic composition between sediment sampled in situ and from tablets, both show six-monthly changes, with heavier compositions in cool semestres (fall+winter) alternating with ligher in warm ones (spring+summer), which is more regular for O18. Cool and warm periods have differences in mean O18 around 1.3 and 0.6% and in mean C13 around 0.3 and 0.2% (sediment sampled in situ and from tablets respectibely). thre is no correlation between O18 of water and sediment for the same periods. The six-monthly variation is attributed to temperature effects. Moreover, the variable contributions of the different carbon sources would also account for C13 changes.
