  • Resumen
    • The writer examines the iconography of the statues on the columns of the three western portals in Chartres Cathedral and the southern portal of the royal collegiate church of Notre Dame in Étamps, both in France. These portals depict a theological program marked by thematic connections between capitals and columnar statues facing one another, and by typological connections between figures from the Old Testament at the bottom and scenes from the New Testament at the top. The columnar statues of the Old Testament literally and visually support the New Testament, which is depicted on the capitals, door lintels, and tympani. The individual figures are identified.
