The writer interprets Anselm Feuerbach's monumental history painting Medea, second version, of 1870, now in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Germany. Motifs from the prologue of Euripides's tragedy Medea determined the composition of Feuerbach's painting. Three different times referred to in the prologue are represented in the painting by different spaces, different lighting, different colors, and the contrast between rest and movement.
