  • Caspar David Friedrich's 1830 manuscript "Auerungen bei Betrachtung einer Sammlung von Gemählden, a series of reflections on paintings, contains a passage with metaphors drawn from “Amor ein Landschaftsmaler” (Amor a landscape painter), a poem by Goethe. The writer considers the role of the metaphors (fog, veil) in Friedrich's own landscape paintings.
