Graphic art by Baccio Bandinelli provided Adriaen de Vries's with sources of inspiration for his bronze statue of Mercury (1596–99) in the Maximilianmuseum in Augsburg, Germany. The statue cites the figure of Mercury in a print after Bandinelli by Nicolas Beatrizet. It shows the figure in reverse, suggesting that de Vries may have seen Bandinelli's original preparatory study, possibly during his stay in Florence.
