  • The article discusses the c. 1288-1292 fresco painting “The Death of St. Francis” in the Franciscan cycle in the upper church at the Basilica of S. Francesco in Assisi, Italy. Topics addressed include the importance of “The Death of St. Francis” within the fresco cycle, realism in the fresco and the possibility that it can be attributed to Giotto, a portrait depicted in the clouds in the fresco, and Dominican friar Albertus Magnus.
