  • The article discusses Scottish painter and art dealer Gavin Hamilton, who bought the painting “Virgin of the rocks” by Leonardo da Vinci and sold it to William Henry Petty, 1st Marquess of Lansdowne in 1785. The article presents text from letters written by Hamilton in attempt to sell the painting.
