  • The article discusses the c. 1610 painting “Christ and the woman of Samaria” by Artemisia Gentileschi. The author analyzes the painting's depiction of the account of the Samaritan woman from John 4 in the Bible and describes the posture of the two figures in the painting. Also discussed is a 1637 letter from Gentileschi to Cassiano dal Pozzo, secretary to Cardinal Francesco Barberini, offering the painting to the cardinal in hopes of receiving commissions for artwork from the Barberini family.
