The article discusses the Thread Count Automation Project (TCAP) to analyze cavas types for 19th-century paintings. The project began at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands analyzing the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh using X-radiographs to determine the thread density of canvases. The project used the data to help determine the dates and sequence of paintings by Van Gogh and to understand the way that Van Gogh worked with rolls of canvas.
