Resumen de New Drawing by Malosso

Marco Chiarini

  • The writer attributes a drawing of the Virgin in Glory Surrounded by Cherubs, held in the Biblioteca Marucelliana in Florence, Italy, to the Cremonese-born artist Giovan Battista Trotti, called il Malosso (1556–1618). He argues that the drawing, which is squared for transfer for a painting, is a preparatory study, with differences, for Malosso's altarpiece of the Virgin in Glory Interceding for Cremona, with Sts. Omobono and Imerio in the Palazzo Comunale of that Lombard city. Based on material relating to the artist's style as a draftsman assembled by Mario di Giampaolo, he proposes a number of features in this new drawing that betray the artist's hand.
