  • Resumen
    • The writer discusses the relationship between Dutch art historian Joachim Sandrart and French art critic Roger de Piles. She establishes the importance of art biography and the changes that it underwent at the end of the 17th century, evaluates the role of the various writings in educating both the artist's and the collector's eye, and demonstrates the extent to which the reception and development of Sandrart's ideas by French theorists contributed to the emergence of a new style in which Dutch painting played a particularly significant role.
