The author responds to an article by Volker Herzner about the quatrain appearing as an inscription on "The Ghent altarpiece" ("The adoration of the lamb"), a Flemish panel painting by Jan and Hubert van Eyck. The author discusses Herzner's belief the quatrain is a 16th-century forgery and suggests the the quatrain was composed in 1432 for the lower register of the altarpiece. He focuses on the translation of the work "tueri" in the inscription and the chronogram of the inscription compared to other 15th-century chronograms, and also compares the quatrain to a 1435 quatrain by Antoine de la Taverne.
