  Cutaneous melanocytomas and malignant melanomas are rarely observed in cattle. A parallel is drawn between the melanocytic system in man (hairless) and other (haired) mammals. A survey of literature, focused on the malignant melanoma in cattle indicates that pigmented tumours may arise at random on the body. The paper also discusses the different histological aspects, and compares these with melanocytic tumours in man. A classification of these dermal lesions in cattle is outlined.

  Mélanomes et mélanocytomes cutanés sont des tumeurs relativement rares chez le bovins. Après avoir évoqué la formation du systeme mélanocytaire, les auteurs décrivent les différents types de tumeurs recontrés dans cette espèce et font le parallèle avec les tumeurs du système pigmentaire chez l'homme. Une classification de ces lésions cutanées chez les bovins est proposée.
