Resumen de Nuevos “Eldorado” Representaciones del territorio e ideales de progreso en la migración del Área Metropolitana Centro Occidente de Colombia

  Objetivo: identificar las motivaciones de orden cultural, a partir de la representación de territorios distantes, de las migraciones internas e internacionales en el Área Metropolitana del Centro Occidente (AMCO), del departamento de Risaralda (Colombia). Metodología: investigación cualitativa de tipo etnográfico, centrada en el análisis del discurso. Se analiza el hecho migratorio en el nivel de la emigración internacional y de la inmigración interna. Resultados: se revela la influencia de las representaciones sobre el territorio en la decisión de emigrar, al tiempo que se evidencian algunos de los mecanismos de difusión y trasmisión de los discursos que incorporan las presentaciones influyentes en la migración hacia el AMCO y desde este territorio, al extranjero. Conclusiones: en el caso de AMCO, la migración interna, aunque obedece a múltiples factores como el conflicto y sus efectos, o al desarrollo económico territorial, también obedece a un sistema cultural a través del cual un potencial migrante se hace una idea favorable o desfavorable de un territorio adónde dirigirse.

  Objective: this paper aims at arguing that internal and international migrations in the Central Western Metropolitan Area (AMCO) in the state of Risaralda (Colombia) can be partly explained focusing on factors such as cultural motivations of the representation of distant territories. The Central Western Metropolitan Area (AMCO), embracing the municipalities of Pereira, La Virginia and Dosquebradas in Risaralda (Colombia), has rates of internal migration and overseas emigration which are unique in the region. Methodology: the proposed analysis of international emigration and internal migration is the ethnographic qualitative research, focused on discourse analysis. Results: the influence of territory representations on the decision to emigrate is revealed, whereas some of the diffusion and transmission mechanisms of the discoursesthat incorporate these representations influencing on migration toward AMCOand from this territory towards overseas are shown. Conclusions: in this territorial case, internal migration, apart from multiple factors such as the armed conflict and its effects or its territorial economic development, it is mainly due to a cultural system  through which a potential migrant population creates a favorable or unfavorable idea of the territory where they plan to go.
