Resumen de La segunda juventud de los puentes arco de fábrica: s. XVII, XVIII y XIX

  El presente artículo pretende resaltar la importancia que tuvo en el proyecto y construcción de los puentes de fábrica la conjunción de una serie de hechos favorables relacionados con el conocimiento científico técnico que se dieron lugar a finales del s. XVII y principios del s. XVIII. Esta sinergia positiva derivó en un segundo periodo de esplendor de los puentes de fábrica que llevó consigo una mejora cualitativa de estas estructuras y la construcción de un ingente número de bellas estructuras. Se trata, por tanto, de subrayar esta nueva juventud de los puentes de fábrica, de su relación con el desarrollo de la matemática y la ingeniería, de su relación con sus inmediatos predecesores, los puentes medievales y modernos, y de su muerte temprana a finales del primer cuarto del s. XX, coincidiendo con la irrupción del hormigón armado.

  This article underlines the implications in the design and construction of masonry bridges brought about by a series of favourable advances in the knowledge of science and technology that took place at the end of the 17th century and the start of the 18th century. This positive synergy led to the resurgence of masonry bridges accompanied by the improved quality of these structures and witnessed by the construction of a vast number of beautiful bridges. The article outlines this renaissance of masonry bridges, highlighting their relation to the development of mathematics and engineering, their relation to their immediate predecessors, the medieval and modern bridges, and their early demise in the 1920�s on the emergence of reinforced concrete.
