Resumen de Algunas consideraciones sobre la intervención en puentes bóveda de piedra o ladrillo

Se plantean en este artículo unas consideraciones acerca del valor de los puentes de piedra y ladrillo, no siempre bien entendidos por la sociedad y, lo que es peor, por los propios ingenieros. Eso ha conducido a que las actuaciones sobre los puentes de fábrica se hayan hecho, frecuentemente, con poco criterio y peor fortuna. Se hace una primera referencia a su valor patrimonial, concepto algo etéreo, pasando luego a la componente estructural que comporta la belleza de estos puentes, de comportamiento resistente asombrosamente generoso aunque a veces frágil, apelándose a la necesidad, casi obvia, de entender bien estos puentes antes de intervenir o, mejor dicho, antes de analizar si es preciso intervenir, cuándo y cómo hacerlo. Por todo ello, ya en las conclusiones, se reivindica la necesidad de incorporar a la oferta docente el estudio de estos puentes, de formar a gestores y técnicos y de difundir hacia la sociedad el valor y el papel de estas nobles construcciones, dispuestas a seguir jugando un papel de primer orden en las infraestructuras de la sociedad actual.

The author raises a series of aspects related to the value of stone and brick bridges, that are not always understood by the public and, what is worse, by engineers themselves. This has led to interventions on masonry bridges that have often been made with poor criteria and mixed fortune. The article starts out by referring to the somewhat intangible concept of the heritage value of these bridges, before passing on to the structural component that encompasses the beauty of these bridges, and which, while sometimes fragile, incorporate a truly outstanding bearing capacity. The author makes the case in support of the almost obvious need for a correct understanding of these bridges prior to any intervention or, preferably, to establish whether any intervention is in fact required and, if so, when and how. The article concludes by arguing the need to include the study of these bridges in engineering coursework, to train administrators and technicians and to inform the public of the value and role of these noble structures that are destined to play an essential role in the infrastructures of modern society.
